Z pomocą współpracującego z Marillion Johna Helmera, Pete'a Trewavasa, perkusisty Paula Craddicka i piosenkarki Hannah Stobart, Steve wydał swoją pierwszą solową płytę w 1996 roku Carnival of Souls pod szyldem The Wishing Tree.
Album ten został ponownie wydany w 2001 roku z nową grafiką i dodatkami takimi jak rzadkie klipy wideo i utwory The Wishing Tree.
Projekt The Wishing Tree wraca po ponad 10 latach kolejnym albumem Ostara z 23 marca 2009 roku.
